a bit about me and my teaching style

¡HOLA! I am lourdes, your spanish teacher

As a native Spaniard who has lived in several countries, I bring a variety of perspectives and experiences to our lessons:

I trained as a teacher of Spanish as a foreign language at the Instituto Cervantes in Utrecht and later became an accredited DELE examiner (levels A1 to C1). This background gives me a clear understanding of what’s expected at each proficiency level — whether you’re preparing for official exams or simply want to track your progress with confidence.

Before becoming a teacher, I spent ten years working as a geologist in the resource industry. That experience helps me connect with professionals and understand the language of the workplace. It allows me to design classes that are not just about grammar or vocabulary, but about navigating real interactions — in meetings, emails, and cross-cultural situations.

In addition, I also studied graphic design — adding creativity and a visual touch to the way I teach.

What truly motivates me is the connection I build with my students: learning together and seeing their progress. I believe language learning should be purposeful, personal, and also fun.

Would you like to learn Spanish with me?

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching approach is all about helping you reach your language goals in a way that feels natural, motivating, and effective. I focus on communication from day one, creating a space where you feel comfortable using Spanish actively — not just learning about the language.

I was trained in the communicative approach, which means we focus on what you want to express in real situations. Grammar and vocabulary are treated as essential tools that support meaningful communication — not just rules to memorise.

I’ve worked with a wide range of manuals and teaching materials — from general Spanish to exam-focused and professional Spanish. This means I can choose the right resources for each student or group, and adapt them to your level, pace, and interests.

If you take online classes, you’ll get more than just a video call. I use a dedicated learning platform that connects with the manuals we use in class. You’ll be able to complete your homework online, and I can review it and give you direct feedback. This is also a great way to keep track of your progress between lessons and stay consistent with your learning.

Lessons are always tailored to your personal goals and learning style. You’ll get plenty of practice across all four skills — speaking, listening, reading, and writing — in ways that feel connected, practical, and engaging.

Step by step, you’ll build confidence and fluency in a way that really sticks.
